Ground Debris Estimation Tables (Draft)
This document was prepared for the Virginia Department of Forestry for preliminary assessment of ground debris following the March 2008 tornadoes in Western Virginia.
This document has been annotated in October 2008 following UFST Hurricane Gustav response experience in Baton Rouge (LA). The document offers two diameter/volume tables based on regression of research data that calculates wood volume. The calculations are then modified to account for the "typical" loading of woody debris during disaster clean-up operations to arrive at a "FEMA" volume estimate (i.e. yards delivered to the debris staging areas).
There is a companion table "Tulsa - FEMA Debris" and comment that used the volume table to create a FEMA reimbursement volume for trees removed (see Tulsa Cost Sheet).
The "Common Objects" table is a field tool that urban foresters can use to estimate ground debris (i.e. piles of woody debris that are not recognizable as individual trees).
